Quality not Quantity
This morning, instead of posting a photo, like I have been every morning for the past two weeks or so, I asked Twitter a question:
“What’s more important to you? Quality or quantity?”
Given absolutely no context, it came as no surprise that most of you chose quality over quantity.
Now, let’s add context and see if this changes things!
A Photo a Day
My question was related to my posting a picture every single morning for two weeks, and trying to decide if I should continue. There were a few days in which I posted a photo in a hurry and I wasn’t completely satisfied with it. I asked myself the question: “Is there really a point in posting a photo every single day, if the viewers would rather see a great photo every once in a while, than a possibly good or possibly mediocre one every single day?”
There’s probably 101 different ways one could look at the scenario. I’ve already decided that I’m going to continue posting pictures in the morning, on mornings where I encounter something interesting to take a picture of. I will continue to post them here and on Flickr. I’m also going to post other things to this blog now that I have your attention.
What Did We Learn?
Forcing myself to post a photo every single day has accomplished a couple of things. I was able to form a habit of posting to this blog…something I’ve been trying to do for the past two years. I spent way too much time thinking about it, and not enough time doing it. Also, some of you developed an expectation for the morning photos. Based on some of your comments and reactions on Twitter, I got the feeling that you were all getting used to the new idea and liked it. It was very encouraging to get your feedback, and I thank you all for doing so.
On the other hand, forcing myself to do something for the sake of doing it was not satisfying for me at all. We need to have a win-win situation here, so from now on there will be good morning pictures, but only on mornings where the picture is good. Good?
A big thank you goes out to my friends on Twitter listed below, who provided their feedback to my question. You are all amazing people, and it’s a pleasure to know you and have your input! Keep on tweeting!
